Major: -

In compliance with Circular No. 6, Series of 1866, Hd Qrs. Asst. Comr. State of Virginia, I have the honor to report that the characters of the freedmen for industry has stood high during the month. The prospects are fair for abundant crops, which together with the large supply of fruit will yield ample support for all classes. Extreme suffering among the old, sick or infirm, there has been no cases. A good feeling generally exists between the white and colored races, and a system of fair and just dealing between them is pretty well established.

Schools have been well attended, two of which, unfortunately are to close for a time with this month for want of teachers.

Very Respectfully
