The County yet up to this time no drunkenness amongst the freedmen has been heard of; in only two or three of the towns could liquor be attained and rarely in the Country - the factory hands in Clarksville use the most of any party I have noticed, but yet never to excess, and these moderate drinkers are the hardest to persuade to join a Temperance Society. The numerous fruit distilleries that are starting up through the County may cause more need of the Society than has been before felt- I have sent the Circular of the Lincoln T.S. to Rev. Mr. Greer, a great favorite of the freedman and one who has a better chance of meeting large bodies of them than I have, with a request that he will take the matter in hand & promised him to be one of the organizers - He will go to work at it & I trust to soon report some progress -

The crops are turning out better than was expected & the hands can make good shares by attending to them well at this time -
