more fully convinced than ever that wages in money is the mode of compensation surest and best for the Freedmen.

No colored schools are now in session excepting a half dozen of Sunday schools - three of which are under charge of the Freedmen and three under that old white residents of the county.  I have no reports from any of these schools.  Most of the white citizens are not only willing but anxious that their colored neighbors should be educated

In this connection I would respectfully call your attention to the fact that there are no schools in Bath or Alleghany and to the desirableness of establishing one at Warm Springs and one at Lexington [[strikethrough]] respective [[/strikethrough]] -
