General
I have the honor to report that the state of feeling existing between the whites and blacks in my Division does not grow any better

There are a few whites with whom freedmen are working for a share of the crops that are disposed to turn them off pleading as an excuse some trivial thing that the freedmen may have said or done. so far I have had the freedmen return and informed the parties that the crops should be divided as originally intended.

Drunkenness is almost unknown among the freedmen altho they have been in the habit from infancy of drinking ardent spirits owning to the immense amount of malaria generated from the swamps and low lands of this portion of Virginia.
