now open and the gathering in of the fall Crops has given employment to a great maney and it is believed that all who wish to do so can find employment of some kind. The Schools have not yet been opened and no teachers have yet arrived. The health of the Division is good and quiet and good order prevails. No Temperance Societies have been organized and but little has been done towards that object. The colored people are too much engrossed in politics to care much about the matter and their ministers if they try at all to forward the cause meet with but little success. My own time is so much taken up by my duties as Bureau and Registering Officer that I have but little to give to the organizing of Societies. I have placed the matter in the hands of the pastors of the several colored congregations. The Freedmen of this Division are not addicted to drunkeness.
