One of the candidates through the influences of the Union League, has worked upon the colored people, & gotten their passions so aroused, that all those who could get arms, turned out with them as their public & private meetings and nothing but the good sense of a few colored men, has prevented Collissions. I have spent some days past there, & matters are now all quieted down -; the steps taken are such as will insure peace, & prevent the reoccurance of the disgraceful scenes
