Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen & Abandoned Lands
Head Quarters, Asst. Sub Asst. Commissioner
3rd Div, 8th Sub Dist. Virginia, Christiansburg Va,
October 27th 1867.

Bvt. Brig. Genl. C Brown
Asst. Commissioner,

General - I have the honor to make the following report of Bureau Affairs in this Division, considering the counties of Montgomery, Pulaski & Giles, for the past month.

Very generally the whites are not on as good terms
with the Freedmen, as represented in former
reports. This is the result of large numbers of the
Freedmen having connected themselves with the
Union League, and voting for the Republican Candidate for the Convention. I have received information from numerous Sources, that there will be a general dismissal from Service, at the termination of the present Contract year. Parties who now have Freedmen in their employ, who politically are in opposition to what they term their interests, will discharge them, immediately on the termination of their present term of Service -
