And further have concluded not to employ or hire in the future, any colored man opposed to them politically. This has caused considerable anxiety among the Freed people, who are anxiously inquiring what course they had better pursue under the circumstances.  Were it not for military interposition, in cases of freedmen discharged prior to the expiration of their term of contract (on account of their political views) many of them would at the present time be summarily dismissed.  Not withstanding the Freedmen have remained very orderly and quiet, attending to their various  duties and giving offence to no one.

With the accumulated duties of Military Commission and President of the Board of Registration, I have been unable, during the past month, to give all the attention to Bureau affairs which they demand - my time having been fully occupied in attending to the most important of the several duties devolving upon me.  I am therefore unable to furnish a full report of the school interest, and  progress of education among the people.  At Christiansburg however, the Fall session of our Freedman School, commenced on Monday last, under very favorable circumstances
