The temperance cause does not flourish as was anticipated among the freed people they are not disposed to sign the pledge Intemperance does not exist to the extent among the blacks that it does among the Whites not a single case of drunkeness came under my observation among the blacks on Election day and very few among the whites the Bar Rooms being closed on that day in fact it is a rare case to see a colored man drunk on any occasion. The Govt authorities have thus far assumed the case of the Colored paupers of the County.

The schools in the County have not opened yet The School at this place opened on the 1st of this month
