requirements, and responsibilities,- Schools are prospering finly [finely], and new houses are going up, in several places.- The freedmen are exerting themselves to procure teachers, but in their present condition they are unable to meet the necessary expenses. The Benevolent Associations are endeavoring to furnish them, and have done a great deal towards the advancement of the colored people.

They have a great interest in education, and seem to feel, that their social, moral, and political condition wholly depends upon their educations.-
