In relation to schools, I am not enabled to make a very favorable report as there are but two small schools in the Division, and they are indifferently well attended. The Freedmen are all anxious to attend school, but have no chance.

In relation to the formation of Temperance societies I can do nothing at all. It is impossible to find one man, willing to join in the movement. Brandy and whiskey in these back Counties can be had as cheaply as water almost and everybody encourages drinking, instead of endeavoring to curtail its use. The Freedmen still continue to behave, in a very peacefull and decorous manner keeping free of disorderly conduct, and refraining from joining any sort of secret ongoing a hand
