Another case where a worthy minister of the Gospel an old resident for having preached a few times to the colored people and being on good terms with the Bureau Officers was so reproved by his friends as to force him to change his course. All the Churches are by vote of their trustees closed against all preachers except those who entertain the southern sentiments and favor the "Lost cause".

This feeling is so intense that no right minded man can dwell among them without feeling the effects.

During the month efforts have been made to injure two of my Assts "Bvt Capt C.S. Schaeffer," and Lieut. C. McDougall by charging them with official misconduct. From a knowledge of all the facts I deem the charge void of foundation and most malicious. The case was investigated by orders of the General Comdg 1st Mil. District
