quarters which is relieved by the visiting surgeon medicines being furnished from the Dispensary.
There are daily applications made to the Bureau for relief, mostly by females with children, there is no doubt in my mind but that the destitution and suffering among the freedpeople will be as prevalent as ever, and, without daily supplies of food and fuel many of them will perish from want. The feeling between the races is more marked since the elections, but no trouble has occured, nor has any freedman been discharged from employ on account of his exercising the elective franchise adversely to the wishes of his employer in Alexandria Co. Va. to my knowledge, some cases have been reported to me, but I have failed to find any proof of such being the reason for the discharge.
No cases of injustice toward freedmen on the part of the civil authorities have come to my notice during the past month, there was a freedman murdered in the upper part of the county on the night of Saturday Nov.
