who, it is alleged, has directed that these parties shall not remain.

It was also stated just after that election, by the colored people on this place that they had understood that it was the intention of those having control to allow them to remain until Christmas, and then to turn them out without warning, and, of course without homes. As this note seemed to confirm the truth of the report, and as I was reliably informed that many others received verbal notification to leave at the end of the year, at the same time that the above written notice was served, I at once wrote a letter to Mr Moncure warning him against any illegal or unusual measures whatever.

This is an extreme case, and, in fact, I have heard of no other similar to it in County. On the contrary it is most gratifying to know that there are many who, while they oppose col'd suffrage, seem to feel kindly toward the race. giving them fair wages, renting on liberal terms, and otherwise aiding and encouraging them.

There are no col'd schools in this County at present, where there ought to be at least twenty. An effort is being made to put the church at this place in order, when it is hoped we shall be able to secure a suitable teacher on satisfactory terms. But little can be accomplished
