of this Sub. District report the Freedmen as doing remarkably well under the circumstances. 

It is reported quite generally in all parts of the Dist. that the Whites are intending to refuse to employ the Blacks or permit them to live upon their lands unless they will submit to unjust terms and promise to vote as they direct. Some few cases may occur which may cause some suffering but a general dismissal and turning off, I do not think probable. Their services are in too much demand and I think these threats are made more to intimidate and to bring to their terms than to drive away. 

There are also some reports by the Whites that they cannot engage laborers for the next year. The cause of this is not an unwillingness on the part of the Blacks to work for reasonable wages but for the want of reasonable wages being offered. 

Schools There are five schools in successful opperation in this Sub. District. four under teachers from the North and one under a Colored teacher. The whole number of schollars reported
