of feeling existing between the whites and the Freedmen. The Freedmen are disposed to look upon the whites with distrust.

The Supply exceeds the demand for Labor. Many Farmers have been compelled to discharge their Laborers on account of not having made any Crops the last year. The Crops in this Division were an entire failure and I am of the opinion that many Freedmen will Suffer for food & clothing during the next three months, unless they receive aid.

Those Freedmen who have work receive fair wages.

There has been no organization for the furtherance of the Cause of Temperance effected in this Division though endeavours have been made for that purpose.

The Freedmen are not inclined to be intemperate.
