District are totally false and without any foundation whatever. I have carefully investigated this matter and am thoroughly convinced that there is not the slightest evidence to confirm the truth of these reports. 

The schools are in as flourishing a condition as could be expected, but the average attendance is not as large as last month by reason of bad weather, and as some of the children are very poorly clad it is impossible for them to attend school in the cold, stormy weather of the winter months. 

The freedmen generally are either entering into contracts to work for the coming year, or are renting land "on shares." In many cases, however, they are suspicious of the whites, on account of the refusal of many of the latter to settle with them, in accordance with the terms of contracts for the year 1867.
