Gen'l

I have the honor in compliance with circular letter from the Genl Commissioner to report the progress made by the temperance movement in my Division-

Very little progress has been made no additional names have been brought before the association- Intemperance though not often noticeable to the extent of absolute drunkenness, does exist to an alarming extent. Most every storekeeper has liquor to sell. Then there are groggeries without number in all the little villages throughout my Div Intemperance is more noticeable among the whites than blacks- but it is safe to say that if the money spent by the colored men during the year could be given for educational purposes it would beyond a doubt be sufficient to support a school in each magisterial dist. Good temperance lecturers & organizers are needed in this section in order
