At Newbern, Pulaski County, the membership numbers ninety, who are true as steel to the cause. We propose as soon as we are able to organize divisions in other localities. At Salem, Roanoke Co. the Freedmen have a Temperance Beneficial Association, but during my short visit to that place, was unable to obtain full particulars. 

Difficulties growing out of the marriage relation, have been adjusted with recourse to civil law, as well as a number of trivial cases of improper conduct, which have been disposed of in a manner, which we trust, will prevent their re-occurrence and have a salutary influence upon others, who have been addicted to unprincipled practices.

The Orphan Children as far as I can learn, have been properly cared for; and when an opportunity is open to them, they attend our Schools.

Notwithstanding the malice and hatred of many of the whites toward the Freed-people, and those engaged in laboring for their welfare, yet there are some, who bid us God Speed, and would co-operate with us, if they could. The Freedmen themselves are steadily advancing in inteligence,
