I have the honor to make the following report of "Bureau
Affairs" for the month of January 1868. The old contracts were with a few exceptions amicably settled, and new ones made satisfactorily to both parties. Though there is a great objection on the part of the person hiring. to have the contract recorded in the office of the Bureau.
Much excitement was created = for party purposes = by
the rumour that- "The negroes would heah into open revolt during the holidays,"- it is hardly necessary to say it was a false report
The civil authorities are decidedly averse to assisting the officers of the Bureau in any way, especialy since the 1" inst. when they supposed the duties of said officers
