freat deal of suffering the amount of aid despensed may seem large in the aggreggate, but was distributed as economically as could be taking the amount of suffering into consideration.

Some complaints have been made in regard to the settlement of cares in dispuits, which however have been promptly settled upon references to the civil authorities who show a desire to settle such matters in accordance with the principles of justice. 

The mode of sending relief that I have adapted is for all applications to be made to the overseer of the poor of the district in which the parties reside: who  investigate the cases and make such recommendations as they deem necessary. The sick are visited by the visiting surgeonson whose recommendation their wants are supplied, and yet at least help of the applicants that have presented themselves have been turned away.
