completed for some time; but the teacher whom we have been expecting from the north has not yet arrived. I have again written to Mr Manly upon the subject. The weather has been so unfavorable up to this time that but comparatively few could have attended. The school kept by Mrs. Carter (col'd) at this place is still progressing.

William P. Brown, col'd, and a good teacher has recommenced a school in the lower end of the County, which he will continue with from 25 to 30 scholars during the summer. It was sought to obtain some aid for this school from the Bureau, but without success. I have nothing new to report with reference to the labor interests.

We have a flourishing sabbath school at this place which is attended well by the colored children. I also hear of other schools of this character which will soon be opened both by white & colored in other parts of the county.

Very Respectfully Your Obt Servant
Ira Ayer Jr ASA Comm.
