Since still flourishes, a National Building and Loan Association, upon the plan of those at Chicago and other Northern cities has recently been formed with an Ultimate Capital, already subscribed of $200,000 in which many of the Freedmen are Stockholders and which bids fair to provide for them in the course of a few years comfortable homes.

The state of feeling between the Whites and the Freedmen is not so good as could be desired but is probably better than in almost any other part of the State, owing to an earlier occupation by the Federal Troops and to the Stronger Northern and National interests and feelings of many of the White population.
