the Freedmen are industrious and receive fair wages for their labor. They are well satisfied & contented.

The State of Feeling existing between the whites and the Freedmen is not very good, both the whites and the Freedmen are disposed to treat each other in general with suspicion. The whites are prejudiced against the Freedmen. Why I cannot say unless it is that the Government protect the Freedmen, it is to be hoped that this may be overcome.

There has been no organization for the furtherance of the cause of temperance effected in this Division though endeavors are & have been made for that purpose. The Freedmen are not inclined to be intemperate. A colored person under the influence of liquor is very seldom seen.
