Crime.
But one case of crime has come under my notice since last report. On the 26th of Feb. inst, a party of three colored men, as is alleged, met another colored man near Maniken in Goochland Co. and took from him his gun and a dollar in money, and fled with the booty. A party of colored men started in pursuit and overtook the alleged robbers and undertook to arrest them. One named Jackson surrendered, but a brother of Jackson showing fight was killed by the discharge of a gun in the hands of one of the pursuers named Thomas Heath. It is alleged by Heath that the discharge was accidental. The Coroner committed Heath to await the action of the County Court. Acting as a Magistrate he also committed Jackson, the brother of the man killed, for robbery.

Pauperism-
No case of utter destitution among the colored people has been brought to my notice during the past month. Although as a general rule have little laid by yet they manage to get a sufficiency of corn and and some meat by laboring for those who have provisions to spare, and are very kind and charitable to the sick and destitute of their own color, and keep them from the almshouse
