termination of the affray. I have called the attention of the civil authorities to the parties who originated the affair and who were the most violent & active in it and should they fail to do their duty, I shall report it at once to the Mil Comr. for the District.

I have requested Lt W.B. Pease USA Mil Com. 13th Dis to be present on the next court day and assist in preserving order as many persons have expressed serious apprehensions of riot at that time.

I would respectfully suggest that an order prohibiting the sale of intoxicating liquors upon "public days" would probably be very beneficial in its results.

There is no suffering for food among the Freedmen and they seem to have no difficulty in obtaining employment or lands to cultivate.

Very respectfully
