condition of the Division owing in a great measure to the zealous efforts of Dr F Lessing AA Surg U.S. Army on duty in the Bureau, continues extremely good. No cases of Small Pox have been reported during this entire season.

The Freedmen are very generally hiring out for the Season at fair wages, and many have been induced the City for the Country where labor is more in demand, and the Staple Articles of Subsistence much cheaper and rents lower.

The Norfolk Branch of Freedmens Savings & Trust Co National Building and Loan Association, the Freedmens Schools and Lincoln Temperance Society continue to prosper as heretofore reported. to the great benefit of the Freedmen and the interests of the Community at large
