There appears to be less intemperance among the freedmen at this season, on account of their work requiring all their attention, than during the winter when there was not much to do.

A very general feeling of distrust of the white people still prevails among the freedmen, engendered by the unprincipled conduct of many of the former in their dealings with them, and no change in such conduct, calculated to produce an abatement in that distrust, can yet be discerned.

The Freedmen's School at Meherrin Depot, Lunenburg County, is to be opened on the 1st proximo and it is expected that the Burkeville School will also be reopened during the month of April: The School at Melville, Nottoway County, is in successful operation and in a very flourishing condition, as will be seen from the report of the teacher.
