All that we can do toward effecting a change in their condition, is to distribute occasionally School Books, and religious papers among them.

In conclusion I would state that during the past month, I have visited the several counties of my Divisions, with the exception of Craig -- (Started for Craig Court House, but did not get farther than Salem) on account of the almost impassable condition of the roads, and a violent rain storm prevailing. Held a number of meetings with the freed-people, and endeavoured to obtain correct information of their condition and necessities. Their great anxiety is in regard to their educational interests, and the cry comes up from every quarter for help.
