This town (Alexandria) is divided into two school districts, with a regularly appointed board of Trustees for each school district, but it is impracticable to carry out such measures in the counties at present, much as the importance of it is and has been urged upon the freed people. J. M. Langston Esq. delivered two lectures in Alexandria Va on the importance of universal education during the month, at which, subscriptions for the furtherance of education were taken  about one hundred and twenty five dollars were realized.  the people have promised to have such meetings regularly once a month here- after for the purpose of raising a school-fund. I append a concise statement of the condition of the Schools in this Sub-District.
