common school education and that the opportunity is eagerly sought after is shown by the fact that over one thousand children are now in attendance at the schools in this place. No cases of flagrant injustice have occurred, although some decisions arrived at innocently and ignorantly have have had to undergo revision. The state of feeling between the races undergoes but little change, although no demonstrations occur by way of breaches of the peace, the parties restraining themselves to abusive language. The Soup house has been in operation, furnishing food to about 800 Eight hundred persons on an average daily throughout the month, it was stopped on the 31st of March 1868. The Industrial school has also been constantly in operation during the month furnishing employment to a number of females.
