Had this thing continued it would undoubtedly been the means of creating a serious disturbance between the whites and blacks  The action of the military commanders of some of the southern states in reference to this order I think had a tendancy to lead its members to believe if the matter was not dropped a similar course would be persued in this state  The excitement occasioned by the appearance of the organization has now entirely subsided and everything is quiet again

Nothing of the kind occurred in Rappahannock Co though there was a great deal of talk about the "turn out of the K.K.Ks at Culpeper C.H"

From all I can learn the object of this K.K.K. organization, was to act upon the credulity & superstition of the colored people & if possible to break up their political organization known as the "Loyal League" which is looked upon with much distrust by the whites generally

All classes of the citizens of my division are now busily employed putting in their crops. and are making preparations for a much larger crop than last year - the freedmen are
