Some complaints are made by a class of Whites that the Freedmen are lazy and will not work &c. but it is found that these complaints come from those who are not willing to pay a just compensation for labor. Men who treat them well and pay according to contracts. make no complaints and find no trouble to procure the best laborers.
The interest in Schools. Churches and all that will improve and elevate them is increasing Log houses are being erected in various parts of the Dist. to be used for Churches and Schools. The demands for Teachers will be very much larger this fall them heretofore. Two Schools are now in successful operation in Wythe Co. taught by colored Teachers whose whole education has been received at the Wytheville School.
