Mayor of town to the matter and he was inclined to believe that it was only a temporary matter and would die out and as no person could identify the perpetrator, it passed off for a few days when they approached again on a Sunday night and threw stones at the freedmen, also attacked their church and committed other outrages. 

I called upon the Mayor again and informed him that he must take immediate steps for its suppression, or give me his reasons in writing why he could not. It seems to have had a salutary effect as nothing has occurred since, he having notified all suspected parties that if any more complaints were made he would put them all under bonds for their grave behavior

The schools are well attended considering the great demand for labor at present, all of which I would respectfully submit
