R.F. and A.L. to Lt. D. M. White, forwarding Transportation Order No. 437 being transportation for Maria Crosby free girl from Lauderdale, Miss, to St. Paul, Minn. H'd Qrs Dist. of Miss. Bu. R.F. & A.L. Vicksburg, Miss. March 21st 1867. Respectfully referred to Lt. D. M. White. Sub-Asst Commissioner, Sub Dist of Yazoo. White, who states that he addressed a communication to the Supt. of the Howard Orphan Asylum, enclosing blank receipt for transportation for Maria Crosby &c, H'd Q'rs Sub Asst. Commissioner Bureau R.F. A. Lands. Lauderdale, Miss. May 4th, 1867 Respectfully returned to Lt. D. M. White, Sub-Asst Comm'r, Sub-Asst. Comm'r Sub Dist of Yazoo, (thro' H'd - Q'rs Sub Dist of Miss) with the information that there is no such named Freedgirl in Howard Orphan Asylum. I presume the transportation is intended for Maria Wilson; but, in as much as the transportation did not accompany the receipt, I can not have the same signed. Jas. W. Sunderland Capt. Veteran Reserve Corps Sub Asst. Commissioner Endorsement on communication from Street & Chapman enclosing record of the Probate Court of Jasper Co. in apprenticing John and Alfred Bragg, freed boys, and gives reasons why the boys should be discharged.
