Respectfully returned to the Commissioner. I have no doubt but that a school house and church at Meridian is much needed, and if the assistance asked for is granted, and the money disbursed under the direction of the Sub Asst Comm'r for that District, I have no doubt it would do much good. I would make the aid contingent upon the people raising a small sum to aid the building - say $200. Any funds disposable for this purpose would no doubt be well expended in affording the relief asked for

Sunderland (thro' H'd qr's Dist of Miss) with the information that Maria Crosby was the name that the girl was known by, up to the time I left Lauderdale, and supposed she was entered on the Books of the Asylum as such. The Superintendent, Matron and teachers of the Asylum are well acquainted with the circumstances of Mr White's application with regard to signing of the receipt. I supposed that the letter of transmittal of Genl. Whittlesey Chief Q.M. Bu. R. F. and A. L. to Commanding General Dist of Miss, accompanying receipt sufficient proof that the
