This agreement made this 27th day of January A.D. 1868 by and between C.S. Allen. of Lauderdale County State of Miss of the first and Wm Burrell freedman party of the Second Part of the County and State aforesaid witnesseth that for the purpose of laboring for the said C.S.Allen of the County and State aforsaid During the year commencing on the twenty seventh day of January 1868 and ending on the thirty first day of December 1868 the said C.S. Allen party of the first part in consideration of the promises and conditions thereinafter mentioned on the part of the party of the Second part agree to pay to the said Wm Burrell freedman one Hundred and Ninety Five Dollars for the time aforsaid and further agree to furnish comfortable quarters and kind treatment and further to give him 1/4 acre of land from Palator Patch.
and it is further agreed that Wm Burrell freedman party of the Second part is to furnish his wife Catherine Burrell and Gracey Haley as hands to labor for the said C.S Allen at his expenses the said C.S. Allen having nothing to do with or hiring or paying the said Catherine Burrell and Gracy Haley and it is further agreed that the said Wm Burrell and those rightfuly dependent on him (vs) Catherine Burrell and Gracy Haley will faithfully perform such labor as the said C. S. Allen may require of them for the time aforsaid and in case he or either of them shall voluntary absent themselves from or shall neglect or refuse to perform the labor herein promised and it [[strikethrough]] shall [[/strikethrough]] it shall be proven to the satisfaction
