to pay with, I furnish the provisions and have to wait until the widow can make the money and probably never get it, Jas Chandler requested Mr. Jesse Stroud on his death bed to take care of wife and look after his plantation, Chandler died the last part of July after the crops should of been made. in the month of august Brooks was absent from the place I think over two weaks know one knew what his intentions or whereabouts Stroud came to me for advise, thinking Brooks had left for good, I advised him to take care of what was left, permit me to say to you without troubling you with a lengthy statement, that Mr E.A. Brooks is a worthless character which I can proove to you by every gentleman in this neighborhood who knew him
