There has been no complaints of injustice on the part of the civil authorities toward the freed people that has been sustained on evidence when the same have been examined and while there is an opportunity of their decisions being investigated by the military authorities, I do not think they will be bold enough to place themselves under any disabilities.

The feeling between the races though strong does not show itself, except in sneers, no one unless certain of not being detected
