of those who are Republicans, that there is a determination to put the latter threat into execution I have no doubt, but until I can secure reliable evidence sufficient to convict the parties concerned I prefer mentioning no names.

I have instructed the Freedmen to disregard all threats, and to exercise their franchise without fear, and that they would be protected in their rights, even if it were necessary to bring troops here to do so.

No Temperance societies have been formed, and it seems impossible to get them started at present. there is however very little intemperance among the Freedmen of the Division, far less than among the Whites.
