I have the honor to make the following report for the month of May 1868 in compliance with instructions contained in Circular No. 6 Series 1866

The feeling between the whites and colored people of this Division is very bitter all on account of the political status of the colored people   The whites threaten them with all kinds of imaginary evils if they the colored people should vote with the Republican party at the comeing election on the adoption of the State Constitution   I am pleased today that the colored people pay very little attention to these threats and continue to attend to their business as usual

The usual complaints are made by Freedmen that their employers refuse to pay them for their services for the year 1867 or give them their portions of the crops made on the Plantations of the whites   Many of those cases are adjusted by the A.S.A.C and others referred to the Civil Courts 

The School at Danville for Freedmen has been well attended during this month and the children are making rapid
