Than a few months since, although but very few contracts, for a longer period than two months have been entered into - and the disposition prevails only to employ them a month at a time, until after the election, when it is anticipated that very many of them will receive a summary dismissal in the event of their voting in opposition to those having them in their employ. Every effort possible is now being made to influence their vote against the adoption of the Constitution recently framed by the Convention, and through offers of permanent homes and steady employment, it may possibly in many cases succeed. The larger number of them however will stand up to their Republican principles, and are willing to risk their chances of the future, by an humble dependence upon a higher than an earthly power to provide for their necessities. The religious interest among them still prevails, and hundred of them are becoming the followers of the Lord Jesus Christ, and added to the several African churches scattered throughout this section of the country. Their educational interests are still in a prosperous condition, notwithstanding
