very many of the Scholars, who attended our Schools during the past fall and winter, have been compelled to discontinue their studies, to engage in field labor, and other employments. During the past month, Books, Medicine and other items of comfort and use, have been distributed among those needing the: most of which have been kindly furnished by friends in Philadelphia, Pa.

As far as I can ascertain, the demand and supply of labor continues about equal, while but little idleness or indolence is seen even in the larger towns. Morally there is a gradual improvement, and as they become in a measure educated, there is less of wrong doing, and a persistent effort to do what is right.

The temperance associations continue to increase in numbers, and although some few have fallen away, through strong temptations presented to them, by their white neighbors, yet the mass of them continue to live up to their pledge, and are using their influence to forward the cause.
