the colored voters, and consequently he wanted General Stoneman to assist him to frighten the negroes, there is no danger of the negroes resisting any officer unless led by a white man, neither will they fight unless driven to close quarters, unless led by a white man. Samuel Fuqua a white man was prevented from speaking at the May Court simpally because he is the Republican Candidate for the Legislature and that was done by armed white men, but Mr Bagley did not report that, and in no case as far as I can learn has a colored man attempted to interrupt a white one- Fuqua, would have been killed at the time he was prevented from speaking if he had not had a warning, what was going on, and concluded to stop instead of insisting upon his right to precede. I am informed on good authority that one of the Ex Magistrates lent a revolver to a desperado to kill Fuqua with at May Court, but on reflection went and got his revolver for he knew what the consequences would be of being an accessory before the fact.
