to keep the members of the Leagues active in keeping before their people the true state of public affairs and while their interests are thus constantly made plain to them I believe their cause will be fully supported.

The fact that the election has not been ordered has quieted much of the high state of feeling between the classes but when it does take place the lines will be very distinct and the opposition to Union principles as great as ever.

I anticipate no present difficulty as the Freedmen here are moderate and peaceful and are almost intirely free from those faults that the individual desire for precedence has shown in some parts of the State and consequently are willing to take and follow advice under ordinary circumstances.

I would add that there are no Freedmen unemployed.  Those who have been ordered away from their present homes are
