Temperance Society, and increase its strength was not very successful. Intemperance is one of the evils, which the freedmen and their friends have most cause to fear.

The disposition of the freed people is generally mild and forbearing, and there are few who insist upon their rights, if their employers are disposed as they frequently are to treat them unfairly.

The number of cases settled at this office has not been large, but have usually been settled finally, and no complaints of unfairness have ever been made by either party, nor has any cases tried here been afterwards carried to the courts, by the whites - it is hardly necessary to add that the colored people do not expect to obtain from any other service any better or more favorable decisions than they can obtain here.

The Schools are all closed for the summer-
