Freedmen has been very good. They have [[borne?]] with many things hard to bear, for which they deserve vey great praise. 

Their Condition is gradually improving, and comparatively few are in real want, & while the wether is favorable they will get along very well. 

The schools for Freed children in this City have just closed. The children or pupils have shown themselves very zealous in prosecuting their studies. The advancement made by them was indeed astonishing, and a complete refutation of the charge that they have no capacity for learning. The Teachers of the schools in this City, Miss Miller Phelps, Miss Whitaker &, Mr Frank R. Forrest deserve the very highest commendations for the energy, and zeal shown by them. The examination and school exhibition at the close of their schools were entirely successful, and the performances of the pupils more than satisfied the most sanguine. The Military
