I have the honor to make the following report for the month of August 1868 in compliance with instructions contained in Circular No 6 series 1866.

The feeling between the White and colored people I am sorry to say is no better than at my last report in fact if anything it is worse. A great many complaints have come to this office within the past month of assaults committed on the Freedpeople by the Whites.  Some complain of being beaten with sticks and several have been cut and stabed with knives great complaint is made by the Freed-people living in the remote parts of the county that they are taken out of their houses at night by men armed and disguised who beat them with sticks threaten their lives take their guns pistols knives and any weapon they may find and in several cases they have demanded money.  At the house of Wesley Edwards (col'd) they threatened the life of his wife who was sick in bead and then ravished his daughter.  The lives of the colored people are threatened if they report these outrages to this office.  Several colored men have been compelled to leave their cabins and sleep in the woods at least 100 guns and pistols have been stolen from the Freed-people by these Midnight marauders.
