Richmond, Virginia,
(Thro' Head Qr's 2nd Sub-District)

Captain,
In accordance with the provisions of Circular No. 6,
Series of 1866, Head Quarters Assistant Commissioner State of Virginia, I have the honor to submit the following report of the condition of Bureau affairs in the County of Nottoway, Virginia, during the month of August 1868. There has been an increase in the number of complaints this month, but the season of activity in farming operations not yet having terminated, it is, as a rule, only the more aggravated cases which are now brought to the attention of the Bureau Officer. The freedmen are fully Employed and seem to realize the fact that they must work in order to be able to live. But few complaints of idleness on their part have been made and as a general thing they are doing well.
There is, so far as I am informed, no destitution Existing among the freedmen in this Sub
