Division, the paupers, of whom the number is small, are cared for by the civil authorities and I have neither seen or heard of any vagrants.

There is less intemperance observable among the freedman in this Sub. Division at this season on account of their time being fully occupied. I am, however, unable to say whether there is any real decrease in the use of intoxicating liquors.

I forward this month, reports of two freedmens schools, one of them a private school near this place and the other the regular school at Wellville: The school at this place has been closed during the month, for vacation.

I am, Captain,
Very respectfully
Your obed't serv't
R.G. Rutherford
Bvt Captain U.S. Army,
A.S.A. Commissioner.
